QUEENSLAND may lose State of Origin games to venues interstate due to a perceived lack of commitment to rugby league by the the Government.
Though Queensland currently hosts three Origin games every two years, Australian Rugby League chief executive Geoff Carr said that Melbourne's next Origin match was likely to be in 2009, coming from one of the two games Queensland would normally host that year.
He said the Victorian and NSW governments had entered into seven-figure deals to stage Origin matches and grand finals and by comparison the State Government did not "support rugby league in the same way". We await more information from the government on this subject.
