Suncorp Stadium
Suncorp Stadium at Castlemaine Street, Milton is a 52,500 seat, world-class state-of-the-art sports venue with an emphasis on football codes such as Rugby League, Rugby Union, Football (Soccer) but has the capability to host other sorting events such as baseball. The SuncorpStatium was a much loved icon of the Brisbane sporting scene fondly known as Lang Park and home to the Brisbane Broncos RUgby League team.
The cauldron-like design and the proximity to the playing field ensures patrons the best view and atmosphere not ever experienced at a sporting event in Queensland before. The stadium is often referred to as soimply the Cauldron.
Although the reconfigured stadium opened in June 2003, the State Governmewnt initially had eased fears of local residents by promising to restrict Suncorp from holding music events. Lang Park often staged large live performances and located in a high density residential area, there were always a large number of complaints.
But in 2006, the State Government passed legislation to provide for a limited number of concerts at Suncorp Stadium. The legislation restricts the number of concerts to three per year and these will have a 10:30pm curfew. The first concert was that of Robbie Williams on 13th and 14th December 2006.
The Gabba
The Gabba, at Woolloongabba, is just two kilometres from Brisbane's CBD in Stanley Street. The Gabba is home of the cricket for International and interstate matches and Aussie Rules. It seats 42,000 people.
Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre
The Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC) hosts international, national and local sporting and entertainment events year round. Open to the public 363 days a year the Sleeman Centre hosts a range of international, national and community sports and arts events across a number of facilities including swimming and swimming lessons, aqua pilates, diving and water aerobics.
Horse RacingHorse racing is held at Eagle Farm Racecourse, Lancaster Road, Ascot and Doomben Racecourse, 39 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley. The trotting venue in Brisbane is Albion Park Harness Racing, Amy Street, Breakfast Creek.
Brisbane International SpeedwayThis is the place to come to see Speedcars, Formula 500s, Sprintcars and Super Sedans roaring round the 440m Clay Track. Formerly known as Archerfield International Speedway, Brisbane International Speedway was established in 1978. The venue has hosted National Titles in the following categories: Motor Cycles, Midgets, Grand National Sedans, Super Sedans, Compact Speedcars and Sprintcars.
