There are plenty of watering holes in Brisbane. Some are more upmarket than others but there's something here for all tastes...
The Regatta Hotel,
right on the banks of Brisbane River, is one of Brisbane's major pub icons. Dating back to
1868, it is a beautiful building in the true Queensland style with its iron lace verandahs
and wooden deck.
For many, the Regatta Hotel was a favourite watering hole while studying at
university. Others may recall rowing regattas which have recently been revived.
The Regatta
Hotel hit the headlines in 1965 as one of the first places to experience female
insurgency when Rosalie Bognor and Merle Thornton chained themselves to the
public bar when they were told they could not buy a beer.
Nowadays
you have a choice between the award-winning restaurant and a bar menu. Upstairs
has function rooms that can be hired out for weddings, parties, anything and
there are plenty of bars downstairs to choose from.
