Whether your penchant is for rock, pop, hip-hop, classical music or jazz, in Brisbane there is no shortage of Live music venues to choose from. There's bound to be a concert tonight in Brisbane, and in indeed on any night...
The Brisbane Jazz Club (BJC)
The Brisbane Jazz Club is a Brisbane
icon and was formed in 1972 to 'promote awareness and
participation in jazz of all styles'.
The Brisbane Jazz Club provides many opportunities for amateur and
professional jazz musicians to meet and play together on a regular
basis, providing a uniquely "Brisbane" venue for members and their
visitors to hear the best of Brisbane's local, interstate, and
international jazz artists in concert.
What's extra-special about this club is its location. The club lies
between the beautiful parks of Kangaroo Point and is just a few minutes
walk from the Holman Street ferry stop. The Brisbane Jazz Club is on
the opposite side of the Brisbane River to the Riverside Centre and
Customs House, lying between James Warner Park and Captain Burke Park
which extend either side of
the Storey Bridge. It has a million-dollar view (we're not kidding!)
overlooking the
Brisbane River as it reflects the city lights at night.
The Brisbane Jazz Club is one of the very few jazz clubs anywhere in
the world to have
its own dedicated premises. It's a very sociable place too, with a
licensed bar and food on offer you can enjoy a drink whilst listening
or dancing to your favourite jazz music.
Last night (27 January 2007) we went there for the first time to
celebrate the second Funky
Miracle CD Launch (Blue Funk! on a Brown TV!) after two years in
production. According to Noel Mengel of Brisbane's Courier Mail, Funky
Miracle is a "Hot Brisbane outfit... Funky Miracle take their inspiration
from the days
when the term funky meant music that was so earthy and raw you could
almost smell
it". He wasn't wrong! This certainly won't be our first visit to the Brisbane
Jazz Club, with a great location, excellent music and a casual
laid-back atmosphere it's sure to be a regular venue for us.
