Wallingat National Park
Wallingat National Park offers one of the best natural viewing platforms
on the Central Coast, Whoota Lookout. Here you can catch magnificent views
of 100km of coastline from Port Macquarie to Port Stephens. Here you can
also find Eucalypt forests containing a number of threatened plant
species. Walking tracks lead from Sugar Creek through cabbage palm and
flooded gum forests. You can get here 30km south-east of Forster along the
Lakes Way and Sugar Creek Road. We took advantage of the many camping
opportunities, parking the Turtle right beside the Wallingat River. We had
the place to ourselves for four glorious days (except for the water-skiers
on the weekend). During the day, the Lace Monitors (aka Goannas) would
come out to explore...
Not realizing, Adam accidentally disturbed one of these enormous lizards,
only to see the goanna scramble with astonishing speed up a tree for
protection, spiraling upwards to a safe spot on the opposite side of the
trunk from him. Not sure who got the biggest fright!

Moving on from Wallingat National Park, we drove alongside Wallis Lake to
Booti Booti National Park.
We stopped off for a quick bite to eat at the little village of Coomba Park, a pleasant half hour scenic drive around Wallis Lake. Although we didn't take the opportunity, you can camp in Booti Booti at The Ruins camping area, at the far southern end of Seven Mile Beach.
