How We Got To Brisbane
How did we get to Brisbane? Read on to find out about our Bus Trip and see the fabulous coast of Northern New South Wales.
Glebe - Sydney
Well, here we go! Having lived in Sydney for most of our adult lives, it was exciting and a little sad to be saying farewell. We left Glebe (inner western suburbs of Sydney) around 10am on 12 February 2002. The bus (nicknamed "The Turtle") was packed with our clothes, kitchen fixings, CD's and other bits and pieces. The weather was poor, a wet, cold, dreary day. Maybe Sydney was shedding a tear or two knowing we may never return...
The Entrance
Given that driving a bus like this was totally foreign to us, we tended to keep to a cautious pace heading out of Sydney. Heading past Gosford, our first stop was The Entrance, 99 kilometres north of Sydney on the Central Coast of NSW, via the Pacific Highway. The Entrance gets its name from the narrow channel that divides the mainland and connects Tuggerah Lake to the ocean on the Central Coast of NSW.
The Entrance includes Bateau Bay, Long Jetty, Shelly Beach, Toowoon Bay, Tuggerah Lake and Wyrrabalong National Park. The Entrance is especially popular for fishing with long stretches of surf beach on one side and the lake on the other. The Entrance is also a popular place for retirees with its many waterways, lake, surf beaches and foreshore parklands.

We had the chance to catch the Pelican Feeding which occurs daily at the Waterfront where we learnt a few things about pelicans from the expert running the show.

Our first night spent in the bus was in a caravan park where we took the opportunity to work out how to connect the power, fill the water tank, how to use the cooker and generally get ourselves sorted.
Munmorah - Frazer Beach
From the Entrance we headed past Budgewoi where we discovered Munorah State Conservation Area. This is a 1563ha area offering fishing, camping, bushwalking, and amazing ocean views. We spent the day enjoying the sound of the ocean as we relaxed with a book and walked along Frazer Beach. That night we ‘roughed' it by spending the night in the bus on the roadside, our first taste of real freedom!

As planned, we drove on to Toronto on the shores of Lake Macquarie, NSW, driving past Swansea and Belmont to stay with Heidi's mother for a few days.

Cane Toads
The cane toad (Bufo marinus) is one of Queensland's best-known feral animals. Originally from South America, cane toads came from Hawaii in 1935 when 3, 400 Cane toads were released into far north Queensland cane fields to try to control greyback beetles and frenchie beetles which were devastating the sugarcane crops.
