Because (CBD) Brisbane's streets are laid out in a grid pattern with English Kings running east/west and Queens running north/south, it's quite easy to find your way around. There are many bridges that cross the river and a variety of options of modes of transport to choose from.
Being a river city, there are many attractive bridges crossing the
mighty Brisbane River, the most impressive being the Storey Bridge.
Having said this, the river essentially divides the city and it may
mean that getting from one suburb to another on the other side of the
river takes some sound navigation skills!
The central business district (CBD) of Brisbane is compact making it
easy to see and explore on foot. If you prefer, catch the CityTram (it
is actually a bus disguised as a tram), which will take you all around
the city all day for a one-off ticket. Another option is the CityCat,
a catamaran river taxi which zig-zags its way up and down the river.
For about $2, it will take you upriver to Brisbane's newest botanical
garden, the Roma Street Parklands. There is also an extensive network of modern public transport facilities including bus, rail and ferries.
Special fares such as Day Rover tickets are ideal for seeing sights all over the city. Alternatively, you can hire a car to make your own explorations.
Taxis and limousines are also available.
