The Brisbane metropolitan, or Greater Brisbane Area, takes in the Brisbane City Council local government area as well as surrounding shires and parts of surrounding cities. The Greater Brisbane Area covers 4,643 square kilometres and has a population of 1,626,865 people. Given its size and wide distribution, it can be difficult knowing just where to put your stake in the ground. Here you'll find a brief overview of Brisbane's shires and suburbs.

Brisbane Housing Although Brisbane is split almost in half by the River, the character of its residential areas differs along the points of the compass. Newer inner-city areas offer town-house or high-rise living at one end of the scale. At the other end Brisbane offers acreage living closer to any other CBD you will find.

Brisbane City Skyline Though often accused of having "Branch Office Syndrome", Brisbane has plenty of opportunity for work of all types. Its burgeoning population offers plenty of opportunity for the entrepreneur and consistently helps it achieve jobs growth higher than most other Australian capitals.

City Cat Ferry Although Brisbane is serviced by rail and bus transport, the size of the Brisbane's sprawling suburbia makes your own transport a major plus. Even for a short visit getting a rental car is a good idea as it will let you access far more than public transport.

Queen Street Mall Brisbane The CBD may be the first shopping destination on your list, but Brisbane has a number of satellite business districts that bring shops closer to the suburbs. Queensland boasts a wide range of exclusive arcades, shopping centres, boutique-filled boulevards and duty-free shops. Queensland also has a wide variety of arts and crafts weekly markets. These markets feature a wide selection of stalls brimming with home-made gifts, clothing and food.

Brisbane Weather Rainbow Clouds The weather in Brisbane is comfortable and sub-tropical. The city of Brisbane enjoys a very enviable climate of brilliant hot summers and clear mild winters. This makes Brisbane is ideal for visitors all year round.

Our Vision...

Australian Spiders

Of the between 5,000 and 10,000 people that get bitten by spiders in Australia each year, only about 200 require anti-venom treatment. In Brisbane, there are about 40 different species of spiders, the more dangerous being the Funnel Web spider, the Redback spider and Mouse Spiders.

The poisonous Funnel Web Spider can kill within 15 minutes of biting a person and those living in any suburbs near mountains or rainforests (such as Kedron Brook, Kenmore and The Gap) should especially look out for these spiders. Rain tends to bring spiders indoors, taking shelter from wet weather in dark, dry places such as shoes, gloves and clothing.
