Situated near the top of the Sunshine Coast just 150 kilometres north of Brisbane, Noosa has practically perfect weather. The area surrounding Noosa includes white sandy beaches, parks, lakes, rivers, fishing, boating, walking and cycling trails and National Parks.
Noosa Heads
The ever-popular Noosa Heads is where you'll find the well-known
Hastings Street running parallel and just behind Main Beach. Here is
where you'll find up-market gift shops, art galleries, boutiques,
restaurants and the Noosa National Park. At night Hastings Street
literally buzzes with relaxed, tourists in holiday mode dressed up to
the nines in their summer dresses and gold sandals or
linen shirts
and leather moccasins dining and strolling along the tree-lined
boulevard.
In the mornings you'll find them at the many cafes and restaurants, sipping their latte's and chatting or
reading over the newspaper. This really is where you'll find the beautiful people who know how to enjoy themselves.
Noosa is where you'll probably find most of the long-term resort accommodation on the Sunshine Coast, Australia.
Noosa Holiday AccommodationThere is an incredible array of choice for Holiday Accommodation in Noosa. Over the past 20 years a thriving market has attracted a range
of high quality to low-cost units, hotels, and even camping sites to Noosa itself and the surrounding region.
There's plenty of short and long term luxury resort and hotel accomodation right in the heart of Noosa, along Hasting Street. These promise beach front and views to die for, or you can save a little by not booking right in the heart of Noosa.
If there is a group of you (or if you have the cash to spare and like to go your own way), consider hiring a beach front house. You can get a luxury house right on the beachfront in Noosa or nearby for less than A$2000 a week. These will sleep 8 or 10 people and there's nothing between your back yard and the sea except perfect pristine white sand!
At the other end of the scale try the camping ground on the Noosa River. There you can have nothing between you andthe water too, for a fraction of the cost, but not quite the same level of luxury, of course. See our review below.
Noosaville
River Drive Noosaville For a more relaxed dining atmosphere,
head to Gympie Terrace in Noosaville. Overlooking the Noosa River,
Gympie Terrace stretches along the Noosa River, lined on one side by
parks and gardens with BBQ facilities and on the other by a great range
of take-away and dine-in options such as traditional Fish 'n'
Chips,
Steakhouses, Thai food, Mexican cuisine and
more. The strip along Gympie Terrace is also a good base for activities
such as hiring a boat to explore Noosa River and Noosa's extensive
canals, hire a fishing boat, Houseboat, a kayak, surf skis or jet skis
take advantage of one of the many river cruises on offer.
Noosa National Park
Just a short walk from Hastings Street
and has easily accessible walking tracks that provide many
opportunities to take in the panoramic ocean views. If you're driving
to the Noosa National Park, a tip is to go early.
We
drive there at just 8:30 am on Sunday morning and were unable to find a
parking space...the beach was already packed
with sunlovers and the main walking track teemed with holidaymakers
taking their morning strolls. Although we were here in the off-peak
season, admittedly this was during the summer month of February.
Noosa River Caravan/Camping Park on the Beach
Noosa On our recent trip to Noosa (auspiciously for Heidi's birthday), we chose to get close to nature
and pitched a tent at the Noosa River Caravan Park situated
on Russell Street, Noosaville right on the beach along the banks of Noosa River. It is
the closest caravan/camping
park to Noosa Heads (approximately 3 kilometres)
and a short walk from
restaurants and cafes at Gympie Terrace, Noosaville.
Because we arrived on Friday and not Saturday, we were lucky to get
a tent site...only unpowered sites were available and by the next day
(Saturday) no sites what-so-ever were available. And this was in
off-Peak season in February! It seemed to be a very busy park,
especially popular with people who enjoy boating and fishing activities
and many people from all over Australia and overseas visitors on self
drive holidays. Never-the-less we had easy access to all facilities
including BBQ areas and camp kitchen.
Because we've found it so busy, we highly recommend that you book
ahead, especially if planning to set up camp in a powered site in your
caravan or campervan. If planning to pitch a tent, the tent sites lie
on the foreshore under shady trees, so it's just a 30 second walk to
the river to cool off! If booking ahead, we recommend you ask for any
of the following tent sites: 4, 5, 11, 12, 19, 20, 26, 27, 28, 34 as
these have unobstructed views of Noosa River. You'll truly feel like
you're at one with nature. One thing to note is that it can be a bit
noisy, not just from the many
people there but also from the river traffic which starts from daybreak
and continues until sunset.
Our most memorable moment was a 2 hour self-discovery tour we took
on Saturday. Because the double-kayaks were all booked out, we decided
to swim across the boating channel (50 metres across at low-tide) onto
the sand bank in the river's centre. From here we walked, waded and
swam until we reached Main Beach.
There were many sand banks lying under
shallow water so the swimming was minimal. It was a 2 hour return trip
but well worth the time and effort. We felt like Robinson Crusoe, away
from the madding crowd, exploring our way to the ocean's edge. Apart
from many birds, especially
pelicans and underwater life, we even witnessed a wedding being held on
one of the small sand islands in the river - all white chairs and white
sails - very romantic - with the wedding guests ferried across on a
hire boat.
