Gold Coast Hinterland National Parks |
The Gold Coast Hinterland rainforests are home to native wildlife unique to Australia. There are over 160kms of walking trails through the National Parks behind the Gold Coast. Soak up the spectacular views and cascading waterfalls where you'll see and hear the native animals and birds in their natural environment.
Lamington National Park Lush rainforests, ancient trees,
spectacular views, waterfalls, pools, extensive walking tracks, large
assortment of bird life, exceptional ecological importance and natural
beauty make this World Heritage-listed park an outstanding place to
visit. Most rain in this area falls between November and March and it
is much cooler than the lowland areas. Immerse yourself in the
rainforest by staying in a guest house or camping at O'Reillys.
O'Reillys Rainforest Guesthouse offers the chance to hand-feed brightly
coloured native birds or climb up to the rainforest canopy on the
popular tree-top boardwalk. Binna Burra Mountain Lodge is another
tranquil rainforest retreat. Keen bushwalkers are invited to tackle the
border trail which connects Binna Burra with O'Reilly's Plateau.
Springbrook National Park Over thousands of years, water and
volcanic activity have carved a spectacular landscape of cliffs, gorges
and waterfalls around the Springbrook Plateau just behind the Gold
Coast. Almost 3000ha of rainforest, open forest and montane heath are
protected in Springbrook National Park. Picturesque creeks, tumbling
waterfalls and panoramic views make Springbrook one of the state's most
popular parks. More than 100 bird species live in the park and rare and
threatened animals like the Richmond birdwing rely on Springbrook's
forests for their survival. Ten percent of the plants are only found
locally.
Tamborine Mountain
This lush 600m. high plateau is within an hour's
drive of Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Tamborine National Park is very
popular with day visitors seeking picnic facilities and short walks in
a natural environment. It's gardens, nurseries and National Parks are a
delight for the day tripper. Both Tamborine Mountain and Beechmont are
favorite take-off points for the spectacular Hang Gliders.
