The Andy Warhol exhibition is being held at the Gallery of Modern Arts
(GOMA) in Brisbane
from 8 December 2007 through to 13 April 2008.
This Andy Warhol exhibition is Australia's first major Andy Warhol
retrospective. The exhibition is exclusive to Brisbane and in it there are over 300 of Andy
Warhol's from the 1950s until his death in 1987 including prints, paintings,
drawings, photos, sculptures, films, and videos.
So who as Andy Warhol? Andy Warhol was one of the most influential and
important artists of the late twentieth century. Andy Warhol was the figurehead
of Pop Art, creating works such as his ‘Death in America'
works; colourful print portrait images of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Onassis, and
Elvis Presley; and his Campbell's
soup cans. The exhibition also demonstrates how Andy Warhol represented himself
through his art practice, through self-portrait paintings, time capsules,
drawings, photographs, films and videos.
Works in this Brisbane exhibition come from
the Andy Warhol
Museum and loans from the National
Gallery of Australia; the Museum of Contemporary Art,
Tokyo; the
National Gallery of Victoria; and various private collections.
