On the first Sunday each August for the past 16 years Corinda has come
alive with jazz and blues artists, roving street performers, sensational food and wine and up to 7000 people
dressed to impress, all descending on Ambiwerra Park in the Western suburb of Corinda.
Feel like a leisurely day spent sampling the delights of more than a dozen of Brisbane's best restaurants?
Want three stages of cool Blues and hot Jazz? There's five hectares of lush Corinda parkland is just waiting for a party.
Located about nine kms from the CBD, with some local parking (the train station is close by), the Ambiwerra festival is also a chance to dress up to the nines.
The Fashion Platter Awards
show off Brisbane's creative talents with the concept of 'wearable
art'. Designs based on the theme of 'Wine, Food and all that Jazz' give
competitors a chance to create a 'delicious' or 'melodic' piece they
can wear at the festival as an expression of creative talents: Like the
fabulous Queensland Banana featured above.
The judges say the entries can be "bizarre and beautiful, deep and meaningful, even bold and exciting".
The restaurants all offer entree-sized portions of their showcase dishes making the event a party for your taste buds without iritating the hip pocket nerve. Ambi Dollars are the ONLY accepted currency on the day and can be purchased at the on site Commonwealth Bank. The exchange rate is one Ambi Dollar for one AU$1.
You will need your Ambi Dollars to purchase food, wine, other beverages, raffle tickets and children's entertainment. The Commonwealth Bank is open all day and unused Ambi Dollars can be donated to the Fesitval's charity partner (the Starlight Children's Foundation) at the end of the day.
You can't bring your own food
or alcohol into the event, but to get you started the organisers will provide a
FREE wine glass as you
enter (limit of one glass per adult entry ticket).
