Western Bypass Opens Mid-2009
Queensland's State Government plans to build a "bypass" link from Oxley to Yamanto via the Centenary Highway, expected to be ready by June next year. In addition, work to widen the Ipswich Motorway will move to the stretch of road from Goodna to Dinmore from early 2009.

Federal MP for Blair Shayne Neumann said that the $366 million connection to the Cunningham Highway at Yamanto at the Ipswich-Boonah Road interchange was on time, "It will be ready in June 2009 and it will mean two lanes each way out to Yamanto," Mr Neumann said.

The road is expected to open with one lane each way in June 2009 with the Department of Main Roads describing the road as the main link for Ipswich's growth regions: Springfield, Ripley Valley and the Swanbank Industrial area.

The 18 kilometre project from Springfield to Yamanto is being built in three major stages, all of which are now under construction. These are a 10 kilometre stretch from Springfield to Ripley, a five-kilometre stretch from Ripley to South Deebing and a three-kilometre stretch of road from South Deebing to Yamanto. "The project anticipates future demand and has been fast-tracked to provide this important piece of infrastructure ahead of time," a spokesman for Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said.

"It is expected that construction of the entire extension will be completed and open to motorists by June 2009." "The 18 kilometre extension will be a two-lane highway with room for additional lanes to be built in the future," he said.

Our Vision...

Australian Spiders

Of the between 5,000 and 10,000 people that get bitten by spiders in Australia each year, only about 200 require anti-venom treatment. In Brisbane, there are about 40 different species of spiders, the more dangerous being the Funnel Web spider, the Redback spider and Mouse Spiders.

The poisonous Funnel Web Spider can kill within 15 minutes of biting a person and those living in any suburbs near mountains or rainforests (such as Kedron Brook, Kenmore and The Gap) should especially look out for these spiders. Rain tends to bring spiders indoors, taking shelter from wet weather in dark, dry places such as shoes, gloves and clothing.
