Building Development for Woolloongabba
A large-scale urban community development to be called "Phoenix" has been tabled for Woolloongabba, featuring luxury apartments, two office buildings and a shopping precinct.

The development application was lodged by Buranda Properties with Brisbane City Council in a bid to transform a derelict 2.5 hectare site on the corner of Deshon Street and Logan Road into an Emporium-style precinct.

If approved, $600 million will be spent to create the Phoenix precinct that will comprise 620 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and 24 town houses. In addition, it is planned to build two eight-storey office buildings, which are expected to meet a five-star green rating. The plan also includes a High Street retail strip with restaurants, cafes, fashion boutiques, a gym and a convenience store.

Construction will take place in two stages, with the first retail and residential component expected to be completed as early as 2010.

The Australian Brush Turkey (Alectura lathami) is a common resident of many rainforest national parks as well as visitors to Brisbane suburban gardens. The Brush Turkey is one of Australia's three "mound builders". The others being the Orange-footed Scrubfowl and the Mallee Fowl. All are descendants of birds once found in the ancient land mass of Gondwana and their closest relatives now live only in Papua New Guinea and South America.
