Adam was raised in the Western Suburbs of Brisbane where he
attended Griffith University majoring in Forms of Communications. After
graduating Adam spent two years in Sydney before returning to Brisbane
to work at the World Expo in 1988. In 1992 he returned to Sydney where
he remained until 2000 when he accepted a contract to work in
Singapore.
Heidi grew up in the Western suburbs of Sydney, making the move
to the hustle and bustle of Sydney's inner city as soon as she left
High School. Here she grew to know Sydney on a first name basis,
spending her time divided equally beteween work and play. In 2000,
Heidi married Adam and made the move with him to Singapore.
In 2001 we returned to Australia after spending a year living and working in Singapore.
It was a tough 12 months for both of us. Though highly westernised
there was much we didn't understand about the culture and the vastly
different social etiquettes. Even making the decision to move to
Singapore involved a lot of research to discover facts about the
country; the cost of living; what facilities were available. Even
though we had prepared well prior to the big move, once we arrived we
found we still had so much to learn.
After many years living in cosmopolitan Sydney and a stint in Singapore, Adam & Heidi landed in
sub-tropical "Brizzy", the capital of Australia's Sunshine State, in 2002. Since then, we have come to know
and love the lifestyle Brisbane offers and the many opportunities
it provides.
This wasn't always the case though...first arriving in Brisbane, we didn't know much about the
place, asking ourselves Where will we live? What do we do for fun? How do we get
around? Brisbane might be much like the rest of Australia, but it has its
own idiosyncrasies that make it unique. This led us to thinking, with more than
1000 people each week coming to the region, others may be asking those same
questions...
So, in January 2006, Heidi and Adam started New2Brisbane with
the aim of providing an online information resource for people already
living in Brisbane, those about to make the move or considering it, and
people looking to just pay a visit. We felt that for the thousands of
expatriates settling in Brisbane each year, the lack of adequate
information and hence preparation can result in an unpleasant move,
culture shock and even psychological and physical discomfort. The key
to understanding and adapting to a new environment is information,
that's where we come in.
Through New2Brisbane visitors from all over Australia and the world who
are about to holiday or relocate to Brisbane can easily access
information, make contacts and post queries. Importantly, we want to
provide more than just information. We want to create a virtual
community for people already living in Brisbane, those looking to visit
and those considering moving to Brisbane. This is where you can
exchange tips, share your experiences, and make friends. Please also
feel free to use our Forum, where just about any question under the sun
can be answered.
Our website is run solely by a husband and wife team, Adam & Heidi.
We devote many hours to updating and improving the site, so help us out
by dropping us a line if you see something you like or dislike about
the site. We need your feedback in order to change the things we're
doing not so well, as well as to continue doing what we're doing right.
Above all, keep on surfing on our site and we hope you enjoy Brisbane
as much as we do.
